AK Steel Announces September Surcharges

Middletown, OH, August 15, 2005—AK Steel (NYSE: AKS) has advised its flat-rolled carbon steel customers that a $157 per ton surcharge will be added to invoices for products shipped in September 2005.   AK Steel has also advised its electrical steel customers that a $50 per ton surcharge will be added to invoices for electrical steel products shipped in September 2005.   September surcharges for the broad range of stainless steel products that AK Steel produces can be found on the company’s web site at www.aksteel.com.

AK Steel’s surcharges are based on reported prices for raw materials and energy used to manufacture the products, with the July 2005 purchase cost used to determine the September 2005 surcharges.
