AK Steel’s Middletown Works Receives Safety Awards

Middletown, OH, March 31, 2005—AK Steel (NYSE: AKS) said that its Middletown Works has received two awards for workplace safety from the Southwestern Ohio Safety Council and the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation, division of Safety and Hygiene.  The awards are the Group Safety Award, presented to the company with the lowest incident rate in a safety council group in 2004, and a Special Award for outstanding effort in safety by working 6,923,299 hours in 2004 without a single lost-time injury.
