AK Steel Receives Prestigious Global Award From Toyota

Only Steelmaker In The World To Receive Award

Middletown, OH, March 24, 2005—AK Steel (NYSE: AKS) was the only steel company in the world to receive one of Toyota Motor Corporation’s four inaugural Regional Contribution Awards, presented on March 16, 2005 by Fujio Cho, president of Toyota Motor Corporation at a ceremony in Nagoya, Japan.

“AK Steel is honored to receive this prestigious award,” said James L. Wainscott, president and CEO of AK Steel.   “We deeply value our long relationship as a supplier to Toyota, and we sincerely appreciate the opportunity to serve the growing needs of the company’s operations in North America.”

The award recognizes suppliers in certain regions of the world that have made major contributions toward Toyota’s success.   The criteria for a supplier to be considered for the award includes having previously received Toyota’s Superior performance award for a minimum of three years.   AK Steel has earned dual supplier awards from Toyota Motor Manufacturing North America, Inc. (TMMNA) for 11 consecutive years, including Superior awards, the highest level of performance recognition, for seven consecutive years in both the quality and delivery categories, an unprecedented feat.  AK Steel supplies flat-rolled steels used in every Toyota vehicle manufactured in North America.

Headquartered in Middletown, Ohio, AK Steel produces flat-rolled carbon, stainless and electrical steel products, as well as carbon and stainless tubular steel products, for automotive, appliance, construction and manufacturing markets.
