Hot Rolled Steels
Our Hot Rolled steels are produced in a wide variety of grades that meet the strictest chemistry and dimensional requirements in the market today and have excellent strip surfaces. Consistency from coil to coil is maintained by applying ladle metallurgy and continuous casting to molten steel, plus rolling on a modernized 80" wide hot strip mill - the only one in the domestic industry equipped for pair-cross rolling - that features on-line roll grinding, work-roll bending and automatic gauge control. These technologies enable AK Steel to meet the most demanding customer specifications for hot bands, hot rolled sheet coils, cut- and mill-edge coils, plus cut lengths and custom blanks.

Cold Rolled Steels
AK Steel's Cold Rolled steel products are known for excellent surface quality and press formability, tight tolerances, and the widest widths available in the industry produced at our Rockport Works. We manufacture low- and ultra-low-carbon grades to meet a variety of customer formability requirements, including CS Type B, DS Type B, EDDS, and EDDS+. AK Steel also produces HSLAS and Structural Steel grades for those applications that require specified strength levels. Cold Rolled steels can be specified as Dent Resistant or Bake Hardenable for applications that require dent resistance after forming and painting. Each grade can be processed with several surface finishes depending on customer requirements. Lubricants can be applied to enhance formability and to avoid at-press lubrication.

Electrogalvanized Steels
AK Steel's Electrogalvanized steel products, called ZINCGRIP® ELECTRASMOOTH, offer superior surface quality and high corrosion resistance, plus excellent formability and paintability, for automotive exterior panels and other exposed applications where these attributes are critical. Pure zinc coatings applied to AK Steel's top quality cold rolled sheet steel deliver both galvanic and barrier protection against rust formation. Our Electrogalvanized steels are available in the widest widths in the industry and in a broad range of grades, including CS Type B, DS type B, EDDS, EDDS+, Dent Resistant and Bake Hardenable.

Hot Dip Galvanized Steels
AK Steel's Hot Dip Galvanized steels, commonly known as ZINCGRIP®, are continuously coated on both sides with a zinc coating. The hot dip process, pioneered by AK Steel, provides a tight metallurgical bond between the steel and the coating. This process results in a material with the strength and formability of steel plus the corrosion protection of zinc. Zinc protects the base metal by providing a barrier to corrosive elements and also by the sacrificial nature of the coating. ZINCGRIP is available in the widest widths in the industry, with special surface finishes, tailored for specific applications, and in a variety of base metal grades and coating weights. The broad range of grades available includes CS Type B, DDS, EDDS, and EDDS+, and can be specified as Bake Hardenable or Dent Resistant. ZINCGRIP is also available with phosphate bonderized. ZINCGRIP is widely used in many applications in the automotive, appliance, construction, HVAC, and other industries. AK Steel pioneered a high quality surface for exposed automotive applications.

Hot Dip Galvannealed Steels
AK Steel's Hot Dip Galvannealed Steels, called ZINCGRIP® GA, are continuously coated on both sides with a zinc-iron alloy. Galvannealed steels are a specialized variation of galvanized steels where induction heating is used to alloy the zinc coating with the steel to create a zinc-iron coating. The hot dip process, pioneered by AK Steel, provides a tight metallurgical bond between the steel and coating. This process results in a material with the strength and formability of steel plus the corrosion protection of the zinc-iron coating. Zinc protects the base metal by providing a barrier to corrosive elements and also by the sacrificial nature of the coating. ZINCGRIP GA is available with special surface finishes, tailored for specific surface applications, and in a variety of base metal grades and coating weights. ZINCGRIP GA is widely used in many applications in automotive and general manufacturing.

Enameling Products
AK Steel manufactures three enameling products to meet a variety of porcelain enameling and formability requirements: UNIVIT®, VIT-PLUS®, and I-F® Enameling Steel. These products are manufactured specifically for use in the appliance, plumbingware, and other industries. Enameling Steels provide the best enamelability, formability, surface finish, and gauge and flatness tolerances. They can be provided with different surface finishes depending on customer specification or part requirements. Oil-based or acrylic/polymer lubricants can be supplied to enhance formability and/or to avoid at-press lubrication.
